Lp Thong is the most famous monk originating from Wat Lard Buakhao, (Wat Rachyota), Bangkok. Several decades ago many Indians lived in close proximity to the temple, most of whom were not Buddhist. In fact it was recorded that they often attempted to steal temple property and the fish from the pond. Luang Poo Tong did all he could to protect the possessions of the temple including the fish which he called upon spirits to guard. After this the intruders would only fetch out dead bones rather than fish, this frightened them sufficiently to stop future theft. It was also said that the fish transformed into leaves and as such respect for the monk grew. It was during this period that many were afflicted with deadly Cholera. Those surviving would visit the temple requesting help from the sacred monk. It is known that he would offer sacred water which not only cured them but also protected them. Many people at that time were often cursed with black magic. Lp Thong would recite sacred spells over those who believed they were affected. Once a little boy who was possessed by evil spirits was led to meet the sacred monk. Lp Thong used “Plai”, a kind of Thai Herbal Medicine, along with his sacred spells. It was known that the boy had been cursed by a practioner of black arts because of his behaviour. Fortunately he was saved by the monk. Because of all the various accounts Luang Poo Tong and his amulets are just as popular today as he was almost a century ago.
